It’s a little after 1 am EST and I just finished watching ‘Just My Imagination’. OMG. I’m blown away and cannot wait to write up my review! Last night at 1 am I was on the phone with the director of tonight’s episode, Richard Speight Jr., and he was telling me just how proud he was of it. Now I see why. Oh boy, do I!

Here’s what else Richard had to say about his Supernatural directorial debut, sans spoilers – you’ll have to check back for those. Now that the episode has aired, I’ve got lots more questions for him! But for now, Richard gave us an inside look at how he ended up directing, and what it was like to be back to work on the Supernatural set.

Happy Halloween Weekend! Trading Ghost Stories With Supernatural Ghost Stalker Chad Lindberg

Comic Con and DCCon 2015 456

We had the great pleasure of catching up with Supernatural and Ghost Stalker’s Chad Lindberg at this year’s DCCon. We’ve known Chad for a long time, since he was one of the first people we interviewed while we were writing ‘Fangasm Supernatural Fangirls’ and ‘Fandom At The Crossroads.’

We’ve explored New Orleans and Bourbon Street together, and hosted film screenings in Philly with Chad and My Big Break director and producer Tony Zierra and Elizabeth Yoffe, who were instrumental in talking us into making Fangasm the true story it is.

So it was extra special to have a chance to chat again after all this time.

Jim Beaver Talks Supernatural, Crimson Peaks – and New Show Internity!

Wednesday night was exciting for more reasons than one – a) a brand new Supernatural episode directed by ActionAckles himself, and b) I had a chance to chat with one of my favorite people, Jim Beaver!

Jim (along with fellow Supernatural alum Julie McNiven and a bunch of other great people) are involved with a new show, Internity, which is also relevant to your interests if you’re a fan – it not only has a great cast, it’s totally fandom positive. The main character is an intern at a hospital, and he’s also a fanboy. In each episode, his fandom comes alive in a series of imagined interactions, which help him solve the problem of the week. We have always said that fandom is a good thing, and Internity clearly agrees!

Julie McNiven On New Fandom-Flavored Show Internity – and the SPNFamily

I had the pleasure of chatting with Supernatural’s angel Anna, Julie McNiven, last week about her new project (Internity) which turns out to be entirely relevant – to both Supernatural and fandom! Although we’ve seen Julie at several conventions, we’d never had a chance to interview her – plus, Julie is one of the kickass women of Supernatural on board for the SPN Ladies Con (@LadiesOfSPN), so it was an extra special treat to talk with her.

Briana Buckmaster – On Spinoffs, Squee and Women on Supernatural

vancon 2015 867

One of my favorite parts of Vancon this year was catching up with Briana Buckmaster, who is beyond awesome. You already know from my episode reviews that I love her character on Supernatural and her chemistry with Kim Rhodes, but spending some face-to face-time with Briana has made me love her even more. She brought along her wonderful husband, Jose, and her beautiful daughter, Valentina, too. We gave them a little tour of the con, took them shopping in the vendors’ area, and then we sat down with Briana for a chat while the rest of the family enjoyed exploring the convention center.

First, Briana filmed a segment for us for the upcoming film “Squee! The Fangirl Documentary,” which I have had a blast working on as co-writer and associate producer along with the amazing producer/director Hansi Oppenheimer and our super-talented post-producer Adam Williams (who also makes Supernatural look incredible with his VFX talent). Briana gave us some wonderful insights into fandom and fangirls for Squee. She’s a fangirl herself – witness her tweet of last night in response to that unfortunate and terribly misinformed SpoilerTV article:

@OfficialBrianaB: Sure I’m a #CasualFemaleViewer. I mean, I binge watch hundreds of tv shows, tweet about them, dream about them. You know, super casual.

Like I said, fangirl.

Worth the Wait! A Fascinating Chat with Tahmoh Penikett

We’ve been trying to catch up with Supernatural actor (and star of numerous other genre favorites) Tahmoh Penikett for what seems like forever. So when we stopped to say hello at DCCon, Tahmoh threw up his hands when he saw us.

Tahmoh: Let’s just do it!

Lynn: Great! Let’s do it!

Kathy: (ever the voice of reason, whispering to Lynn) We don’t have the interview questions…or your iPad…

Luckily, Tahmoh is the sort of guy you can wing it with. We had enough burning questions stored up that it really wasn’t a problem. And I still had my old school audio recorder that has been with us through a ton of Supernatural interviews from the early days of researching for writing Fangasm Supernatural Fangirls and our very first chats with Jared, Jensen and Misha. I kinda love the trusty little thing.

We sat down in the green room and everyone immediately jumped up to look for an outlet and recharge our phones. You have to take advantage when you can!

Tahmoh: I’m good to go when you guys are.

Curtis Armstrong Talks Supernatural, Making Sense of Metatron, and Making Misha Break!

WB/The CW
WB/The CW

What a pleasure it was to catch up with Curtis Armstrong, especially after his last two episodes of Supernatural Season 10 (Inside Man and The Book of the Damned). Actually it’s always a pleasure, but this time I was particularly excited, because those episodes had so many delicious scenes for his alter ego, Metatron. Metatron has been confusing this season, sometimes seeming to really try to connect with our heroes (especially Cas, when Metatron became unexpectedly human for the first time) and other times being the scheming bad guy we’ve come to know. Metatron’s machinations figure importantly in the season’s ongoing arc of Castiel trying to regain his grace, and the Show leaves things up in the air as to what will happen in Season 11, now that Metatron has taken off with the demon tablet. If anyone understands the mind of Metatron, it’s the actor who so brilliantly portrays him.

Ruth Connell On Playing A Strong Female Character (and Having a Blast) on Supernatural

ruth connell dark dynasty

One of the highlights of my week (in addition to the momentous court decision and the rainbow of celebration that all my social media feeds became) was chatting with Ruth Connell, Supernatural’s enigmatic witch Rowena. I was already a passionate fan of the character, but now I’m equally enamored of the woman who portrays her. An hour of conversation with Ruth is made extra pleasant by the fact that her lilting accent is just plain gorgeous. I’m pretty sure I could listen to her talk for an alarmingly long time, just sitting there nodding and grinning. Luckily, Ruth is too engaging for a one-sided conversation.

Also, as is always the case in Supernatural, it’s a small world.

Guest Star Treva Etienne Talks Supernatural — And Getting Physical with Jared, Jensen and Misha

Warner Bros/The CW
Warner Bros/The CW

I had the pleasure of chatting with Treva Etienne, who played the Grigori angel Tamiel in the recent Supernatural episode ‘Angel Heart’. Not only is Treva a really nice guy who’s savvy about the ins and outs of the television and film industry, he’s savvy about my favorite topic of conversation too (that would be Supernatural, in case anyone is reading this blog for the very first time…). He shared some on-set stories of working (and laughing) with the boys, and is looking forward to getting to know the Supernatural fandom better. Treva’s enthusiasm for the show and his enjoyment in working with Jared, Jensen and Misha made this a really fun chat. Oh, and I realize this article is in print, but do yourself a favor and imagine it with all Treva’s responses spoken in his very lovely accent. Every time he said “thank you, darling” I just wanted to hear him say it again.

The Kings of Con Talk Their New Series, Convention Shenanigans, and Getting Muddy with Jared and Jensen

kings of con offic

I had the pleasure of chatting with Richard Speight Jr. and Rob Benedict (aka The Kings of Con) earlier today about their web series in the making and how the support of their SPN Family is making it happen.

Lynn: So I just have to ask: Texas Tough Mudder? You guys, Jensen and Jared, Osric, Jason Manns. How was it?

Richard: Actually it was really challenging, but it was a blast!

Lynn: (skeptical) Was it? It’s not exactly my version of fun, gotta say. But you all enjoyed it?

Richard: Well, you know, all of us are sports enthusiasts and played various sports and athletics growing up, and even though seemingly we’re like different dudes in that regard, we’re not.

Lynn: Not surprising, just still having a hard time labelling it as ‘fun’…. I really love that all the guys wore Kings of Con shirts!

Rich: The funny thing is, that was Jensen’s idea. He named the team ‘Kings of Con’. You have to name your team, so I was like, oh awesome! So we had the shirts on.

Lynn: That doesn’t surprise me at all – you guys have all supported and contributed to our books, and everyone in this cast is so supportive of everyone else’s projects.
