Creation Supernatural Cons 2026 – Norfolk!

The second Creation Supernatural convention of 2026 was in Norfolk at the end of January. It’s a quick flight, so that part was good – lucky for me, because there was snow in many parts of the country and it made getting to this con extra challenging. In fact, many people couldn’t make it there at all – it reminded me of a long ago Seattle Supernatural con that ended up getting so much snow that Jared, Jensen and Misha couldn’t get there, so it was a one day con with the few people who had made it and then we all flew back home!

This wasn’t quite as dramatic, but it was different. My friend who I’d been looking forward to seeing flew in and had to immediately fly right back out thanks to snow and pets and lack of Padaleckis.  Jared Padalecki couldn’t make it, mostly due to his badly broken leg but I’m sure complicated by how ill advised it would have been to fly with that AND snow. I missed both of them more than I can say, especially because Jared wasn’t at the first con of 2026 in Vegas. I miss that guy! Glad he was taking care of himself and prioritizing recovery though, as he should be.

All that meant I had to be in the vendor room for most of the convention – if you came by to say hi or to buy a book about Supernatural or The Boys, thank you!  I did leave the vendor room to watch Misha Collins’ panel — to find him watching his old infomercial for the Navy! Baby Misha!

He had some stories about his kids, who are getting far too big far too fast – Maison went to her first school dance and her dad was emotional about it.

Misha had some snazzy red shoelaces, which he showed off and clarified that they were not a political statement.

There were some influence jokes, to my great delight. There’s nothing better than being part of a fandom that has in-jokes, especially ones that extend through many years. (Look up the Mishalecki panel at JIB one year where Jared and Misha were collapsing with laughter after their dirty jokes about ‘influence’)

He ended with, “So there’s probably a lot of Dean’s influence in Cas…”

Misha reminisced on the hilarity of him and Jared messing around behind the scenes on Supernatural, saying it was a fond memory.

He just wrote a poem about the wormstache outtake!

Misha is a fanboy too, just not for a TV show like Supernatural – instead, he’s rather proud to be a fanboy of NPR.

Supernatural Con Comes to Novi, Michigan!

The Supernatural con in Novi (just outside Detroit) was another first time visiting those cities for me, and also a chance to hang out with two good friends from the SPNFamily, so that made it special. In between panels, I had lovely lunches and dinners with Laurena and Karla and even got to see some of the area (and the SPNSurvivors HQ, one of the charities that our books support). I write a lot about how beneficial fandom can be, and the friendships I’ve made are a personal reminder of just how true that is. Being able to help the important work of non-profits like SPNSurvivors through the books I’ve published is another. When I say fandom can be life changing, I mean for ME too!

I caught some of Matt Cohen and Gil McKinney’s panel since I had help at the vendor table from Laurena and her intrepid partner.

Matt every time there’s a question he doesn’t know the answer to:  I know Gil wants to answer this…

Gil to Matt when HE doesn’t know the answer:  Matt, please elaborate…

They have developed a great rapport for their joint panels, which I’m thoroughly enjoying. Both Matt and Gil wrote very personal chapters in Family Don’t End With Blood, about their experience as actors and how the SPNFamily changed them.

Matt recently shaved his beard, confiding that his wife didn’t kiss him for the two months he had it.

Gil: I liked the beard!

A fan asked who they wish they could talk to.

Gil: My dad. And also it would be pretty cool to talk to Elvis!

Matt: I’d like to have a conversation with River Phoenix and Heath Ledger.

The two have developed a closer friendship thanks to the cons.

Gil: You’re gonna train me to be a better man?

Matt: No, you’re gonna do that for me!

Matt’s face when he finds out that Gil once sang the national anthem at a Lakers and a Dodgers game:

Who would they save on Supernatural?

Both: Ourselves! And we’d bring back Drake Rodger as our love child.

Valid.

Matt on Countdown and Jensen: Can he get any hotter? God, he’s so beautiful. Shout out to the Ackles and the Padalecki, we love ‘em.

Us too, boys.

Right Where I Want To Be – Supernatural’s ‘Safe House’

WB/The CW - tweet Robbie Thompson
WB/The CW – tweet Robbie Thompson

The thing about Robbie Thompson episodes of Supernatural is that they feel like episodes of Supernatural. Or more accurately, they feel like an episode of Supernatural that fandom would conjure if left to our own devices. Maybe not as freewheeling as in fanfiction (okay, definitely not as freewheeling as in fanfiction), but as close as canon can get. So let’s just say I was pretty excited for this week’s episode – not only was it the end of mini hellatus, but it was a Robbie episode too!

Add to that the return of Bobby and Rufus and I was in fangirl heaven from the first frame. Flashbacks of Rufus and Bobby over the years set up the nostalgia and made me realize just how much I miss having Jim Beaver in my Show. Then, montage over, we’re immediately in the realm of a freaking scary beginning sequence – which, of course, is just as it should be.

That friggen’ hand grab!!!

Me: Crap, no sleep tonight.

Totally worth it though. Kudos VFX team.
