Creation Supernatural Cons 2026 – Norfolk!

The second Creation Supernatural convention of 2026 was in Norfolk at the end of January. It’s a quick flight, so that part was good – lucky for me, because there was snow in many parts of the country and it made getting to this con extra challenging. In fact, many people couldn’t make it there at all – it reminded me of a long ago Seattle Supernatural con that ended up getting so much snow that Jared, Jensen and Misha couldn’t get there, so it was a one day con with the few people who had made it and then we all flew back home!

This wasn’t quite as dramatic, but it was different. My friend who I’d been looking forward to seeing flew in and had to immediately fly right back out thanks to snow and pets and lack of Padaleckis.  Jared Padalecki couldn’t make it, mostly due to his badly broken leg but I’m sure complicated by how ill advised it would have been to fly with that AND snow. I missed both of them more than I can say, especially because Jared wasn’t at the first con of 2026 in Vegas. I miss that guy! Glad he was taking care of himself and prioritizing recovery though, as he should be.

All that meant I had to be in the vendor room for most of the convention – if you came by to say hi or to buy a book about Supernatural or The Boys, thank you!  I did leave the vendor room to watch Misha Collins’ panel — to find him watching his old infomercial for the Navy! Baby Misha!

He had some stories about his kids, who are getting far too big far too fast – Maison went to her first school dance and her dad was emotional about it.

Misha had some snazzy red shoelaces, which he showed off and clarified that they were not a political statement.

There were some influence jokes, to my great delight. There’s nothing better than being part of a fandom that has in-jokes, especially ones that extend through many years. (Look up the Mishalecki panel at JIB one year where Jared and Misha were collapsing with laughter after their dirty jokes about ‘influence’)

https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/2017660849280663903?s=20

He ended with, “So there’s probably a lot of Dean’s influence in Cas…”

https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/2017661074590343276?s=20

Misha reminisced on the hilarity of him and Jared messing around behind the scenes on Supernatural, saying it was a fond memory.

https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/2017662094070469038?s=20

He just wrote a poem about the wormstache outtake!

Misha is a fanboy too, just not for a TV show like Supernatural – instead, he’s rather proud to be a fanboy of NPR.

He told the story of how he once said at a convention that the person he’d most like to meet would be Bob Garfield and they ended up becoming friends because – well, because I live tweeted that and tagged him, and then Bob’s twitter blew up and he reached out to Misha. I feel pretty good about that ‘influence’…

A fan asked, what show would you insert your character into?

Misha: Heated Rivalry? Just joking!

Right now Misha is working on writing a dystopian novel, and also wants to write more poetry.

Asked which version of Castiel he had the most fun playing, Misha said Lucifer Cas. He also said he wanted to take home the Pimpmobile, but it turns out they’d been renting it the entire time.

I love that the actors are still so close to Eric Kripke. When Eric’s house burnt down in the LA fires a year ago, Misha sent him some of his Supernatural mementos from the set since he had probably lost some.

What would Cas have submitted for GISH?

Misha: Hold 3 tbs of peanut butter in your mouth for 15 minutes without swallowing. (Argh)

He announced his new substack with Emily, The AnteSocial by eM&M, which you can subscribe to if you’d like to keep up with everything they’re up to.

There were a few Supernatural questions too. Misha said that Castiel was supposed to be rocking the baby to sleep singing Highway to Hell, but they couldn’t get the rights so he ended up singing the theme to Greatest American Hero lol.

I caught a little of the Jim Beaver and Steven Williams panel, which is always so much fun. The two of them are almost as hilarious as Rufus and Bobby!

The two love to tease each other, Jim busting Steven about making up his lines on the show.

What would happen if Robert Singer from The Boys met Bobby Singer from Supernatural?

Jim: Robert Singer would show Bobby how to tie a tie, and Bobby would convince him he didn’t need one.

Someone asked if Sam or Dean was his favorite idjit?

Jim: They’re both really skilled at being idjits…

Apparently Supernatural didn’t let either of them keep the cars they drove on the show.

Jim: You’ve gotta be a bit higher on the food chain… I did get to keep the ceramic frog from Bobby’s kitchen though. It’s the same as a car…

Lol

Steven after the 10th hypothetical question: You people do know this is fiction, right??

I also caught some of Alex Calvert’s panel.

Alex: I thought it would be warmer.

Me: Ditto.

I always appreciate Alex’s outfit – nice socks and shoes combo this time.

A fan asked about his role on Gen V.

Alex: It doesn’t feel that great to be called ‘Dickless’…

Ouch.

What would his walk up song be?

Alex: Barbie Girl.

He said the most fun he had behind the scenes on Supernatural was not getting dogpiled by all the guys.

Alex: I would avoid that if you can.

He did enjoy filming the scenes of Jack as God just zapping people out of existence.

Alex: I had to just be like…

Would Jack have Sam and Dean drive off a cliff at the end like Thelma and Louise?

Alex: Pretty romantic, but no.

He said he was grateful for Supernatural and the fandom, all these years later.

Saturday night was of course the Saturday Night Special. I was extra excited because I missed it in Vegas – the first time I have ever, I think, missed the SNS. It’s one of my favorite parts of any convention and I am a huge Louden Swain fan, so missing it hurt. But my knee hurt more in Vegas, where it was approximately 5 miles to walk from my hotel room to the con. Okay, maybe that’s an exaggeration – but not by much!

Kim Rhodes joined in to play Rockstar and I have to say, I’m obsessed with this hair and glasses and tie combo.

Julie McNiven was at this convention, so she joined in the fun too, singing a duet on ‘Shallow’ with Rob. It never ceases to amaze me that so many of the SPN cast can REALLY sing.

Billy Moran sang a song from his solo record, and Rob sang one from his too – one that was written with Ruth Connell!

Jason Manns sang the beautiful harmonies of Hallelujah with Rob and the audience sang the chorus as is the SNS tradition.

We were prepared with finger lights for ‘She Waits’.

Rob (smiling and moved): I always forget about the lights…

We don’t, Rob.

Rob also sang ‘Fare Thee Well’, which always makes me emotional because he sang it on the show and I miss my Show so damn much.

Mark Sheppard played drums and joined the band onstage for the encore of ‘Medicated’ with his kazoo – he even did a kazoo solo!

Rob loves conducting the kazoo chorus so much.

Great show as always – so glad I was able to be there this time!

Take a bow, boys.

Sunday is always a crazy day.

In between panels and vending, I ran into Matt Cohen trying out some of the light sabres in the vendor room and looking like he would fit right into that universe!

The gold panel was Jensen and Misha – they sent out some love for poor injured Jared.

Jensen: He’s obviously got some really bad injuries, so we send him out some love.  I was talking to him on Friday and he was like hey, during the main panel, can I Facetime with you guys?

Audience: YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Misha: I haven’t gotten to talk to him, they had to delay shooting, didn’t they? (On Guarding Stars, the movie he’s in the middle of filming)

Jensen: Oh yeah.

Misha: I imagine if he did show up for this, production would be like, so…

Jensen: Yeah, so you can’t come to set but you can fly to Virginia…and entertain a rowdy crowd. Probably not the best look for him.

Jensen went to adjust his mic and figured out that the mic stands slide up and down.

Jensen: Too bad Jared isn’t here, he’d play with that all day…

Jensen said that he was a producer on Vought Rising, in terms of building morale on set. Misha said Jensen is that in the green room for the cast, too.

Misha: Jensen has always had on set that shepherding, taking care of the cast, getting everyone, paying attention, like the captain of the team. And I think that is a producer role. But, long story short, we’re both producing things. Mine at the moment aren’t actually getting made.

Jensen: It’s very difficult to get projects made in this industry.

Video: https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/2017993852875862458?s=20

Misha and Jensen are still working on getting a Bridgewater follow-up made too.

Jensen had a funny story about when he did his own stunts in that incredible fight scene in Supernatural with Tim Omundson as Cain sitting at the table witnessing it.

Jensen: He hadn’t seen it yet in rehearsal, so in the scene he’s sitting at the table in the kitchen shucking corn. And as we’re doing this big fight scene, Tim’s just watching and going “Oh God,” “Oh ooh oh”, and I’m slamming Todd on the table and he’s throwing me into the cabinets and Tim’s like hey, what’s happening!? It threw him so much out of character that we had to stop and ask Tim, do you want us to run through this very slowly so you see what’s happening and he was like yes, you’re freaking me out! And then of course in the scene when you see him he’s just totally stoic, doing his thing, but I do remember he was dying inside, but it’s a testament to how good he is at turning it on when the cameras are rolling.

Video: https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/2017996719196143622?s=20

Jensen and Misha talked about building their friendship and Cas and Dean’s friendship.

Jensen: We had a lot of fun, which I think goes into what you were saying, why there were so many friendships that were fortified on that show.

Misha: It’s funny that some of the worst experiences on set were also some of the best experiences. We were just talking about – Jensen, I don’t know if you remember this – the ‘eat the worm’, ‘don’t eat the worm’

Jensen: wormstache!

Misha: Yes, and that night, it was a cold and rainy winter night at like 3 am, miserable conditions, and we were all laughing our asses off. You and I had fun the day we were crawling out of Purgatory too and they had that giant fan and there were like hurricane force winds, they were literally sandblasting us.

Jensen: Dirt and sand and rocks were just getting flung at hurricane force speed into our faces!

Misha: We were like coughing up black for like two days after that.

Ouch. But I so enjoy when they reminisce about SPN!

Video: https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/2017997296286257206?s=20

They also recalled epic wrestling matches with Jared.

Misha: We were in a hotel room and we were taking turns taking each other down and…

Jensen: That was in Toronto. We cleared out the middle of the room for a wrestling match. You have to understand, Jared got really into like UFC and mixed martial arts so he was like geared up to just wrestle – and Misha was like all right.

Misha: It was like no joke four months of ‘my arm really hurts’!

Jensen: I think I have like a four minute video of you guys wrestling in my hotel room. I was sitting there coaching Misha like no no, you gotta slip your right hand out, you gotta choke him out, ooh ooh…

Misha: We got back to hair and makeup the Monday after that and Jared had this like gouge on the side of his face and I was like Jesus, Jared, what happened, and he was like YOU!

Jensen: I think you caught him with your heel…

Me: BOYS.

Video: https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/2017998629311594649?s=20

Someone asked about other crossovers they could have done.

Jensen: If Vampire Diaries had filmed in Vancouver, we probably would have done a crossover.

I have to say I got VERY excited when Jensen showed off the back of his hoodie – for The Boys final season!!!!

(Which is now airing and about to air its series finale this week!)

Who won the wrestling match between Sam and Dean in Tall Tales?

Jensen: It was clearly not a real wrestling match, in fact it wasn’t even scripted that we were supposed to do that. Jared and I just thought it would be funny if we tussled over it. In my mind and in Jared’s mind was, how comedic can we make this? Jared and I off set have for stupid reasons actually tried to wrestle. Jared is very long and lanky and I’m pretty sure he grows like GoGo Gadget arms, understand that reference? So it’s hard to take that man down, but I’ve tired him out sometimes.  (To Misha) You have also engaged in silly boy behavior with him.

Like I said, BOYS.

Where are these videos they have on their phones???????

I love that they all still recall their shenanigans with so much fond amusement.

Everyone was missing Jared all day, especially Jensen, but we did get a rare opportunity to have Rob and Rich join him onstage for the main panel.

They did the traditional leap onstage: https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/2018082006387610057?s=20

True to his word, Jensen immediately facetimed Jared.

Fans screamed their love as Jensen held up the phone so Jared could see and hear the love.

Jensen: Hey Jared… I asked Rob and Rich to join me onstage.

Rich: Mistake…

Jensen: So Rob has already broken a water bottle and dropped his mic and strained his groin. He has no voice.

Rob: I feel like Jared would be proud of me.

Jensen: Well, Jared’s at home with real injuries. Hey, can you say hi to Norfolk?

Jared: I fuckin’ wish I was there. I wish I was there big time! I’m so honored to see you guys, thank you Ackles, Speight and Benedict.

Video: https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/2018147321029029932?s=20

Jared: I wish I was there so deeply, I feel so grateful and honored that Ackles and Rob and Richard and Borja and Norton and Billy, I miss you fuckin’ guys. I have a really cool boot. (Shows it off). It’s the most fashion I’ve worn in fuckin’ 43 years. I miss you all, I love you all.

Jensen: Love you brother, I have one question for you. If you’re inside, why are you wearing a beanie?

Jared: (laughing) It’s my blankie, you know that, you’ve known it for fuckin’ 30 years.

Jensen: It would’ve come in handy this morning because we did the Baby photo ops and the weather said feels like minus 3 degrees!

Jared: That’s why I broke my leg!

Video: https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/2018087002806030444?s=20

Jared: I haven’t worked in a while, so my wig is… not good. (Takes off his beanie anyway, to the delight of the crowd).

(Jensen was so proud of himself for that).

Jared: So today is 42 days for me of not breaking a sweat. Jensen can attest, if I don’t work out for a day or two, I’m kinda a fucking asshole.

Jensen: I mean you’re kinda an asshole most of the time…

Jared: Fair enough but there’s something I’ve been thinking about and I think in our culture we sometimes say, don’t just sit there, do something, but I think in the last six weeks it’s been don’t just do something, sit there. And it’s been a pretty magical journey. I can’t wait to see you guys!

Video: https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/2018084342707134688?s=20

Jared: I wish I was there, my heart is full.

Jensen: Listen brother, we’re sending you love. It’s been a great weekend – it’s been a small weekend, there’s been a lot of flight cancellations and delays, a lot of people couldn’t make it, but the people who are here are loud and proud. You are missed, you are loved, and I’m gonna send you a bouquet…. Of meat.  Speight, shut up!

Jared: I’d never tell you to your face, but you know I love you.

Jensen: (beams)

Jared: But I love y’all too, I feel this guys, and I’m hopefully gonna be back two weeks from Tuesday to finish the movie, and I know I have y’all’s support and it means a lot because it’s been… a lot.

Jensen: All right brother, we love you a lot, talk to you soon.

Video: https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/2018084103447347681?s=20

Rob, Rich and Jensen all sat backwards in their chairs in honor of Jared. Awwww.

Jensen said he’s about to do some work on a video game, but would love to do a Supernatural video game someday.

What crossover would they want to do?

Jensen: Terminator!

If they did Game of Thrones…

Jensen: If we did and Jared met the Mountain, he’d be like, ‘not so big…’

Lol

Rob came up with a crossover of them with their characters.

Rich: That would be with the ‘Super’ crossed out, just ‘Natural’ haha

Jensen said if he wasn’t in the industry, he’d be in the Yellowstone fandom.

He also said he appreciates that Jared is an emotionally expressive person.

Jensen: Because it lets me know where he is, and it gives me an idea of how to operate with him. As do all these guys. And so it is not a singular thing that is the one person who like keeps it all together or who loses it all the time, it is a collective mix of everyone coming together and it’s a team, when the cameras cut, it’s a locker room of men and women who go hey, we gotta get back out there and do it. Sometimes it’s me, sometimes it’s him, sometimes it’s Rob or Rich or anybody that’s there. That is one of the reasons why this cast – and this family – (He got a sign from God there – and then a pat from God/Chuck/Rob haha)

Video: https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/2018088699326599639?s=20

A moment of appreciation for Jensen’s awesome shoes.

And hair.

They all lost it from time to time.

Somehow I could be happy just watching them laugh….

In a more serious moment, they recalled that emotional scene when Dean confronts Chuck/God, asking why. Jensen said it wasn’t scripted for Dean to get so emotional.

Rob: In that scene, you did your coverage first, which I really appreciated.

Nobody loves Dean Winchester more than Jensen Ackles, which I will appreciate every single day of my life. He got a little emotional talking about Supernatural and his alter ego.

Jensen: It’s given me lifelong friends, a family I never knew existed, so any time I get to pay homage to that and how that affected my life, I will of course always do that. Which is a weird thing as an actor, I’m not hanging onto him, Dean is just a part of me, of who I am. I didn’t go to school for acting, I didn’t train in how to dive into a character and then leave the character behind. This was a world I lived in for 15 years. Think about going from kindergarten to 12th grade, that shapes a lot of your life. Even if it wasn’t making friends for forever, it was such a part of your life. I always think about those school years, this was kinda that for my adult years.

Rob: Crazy way to look at it. It was like first grade through college, that’s insane.

Video: https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/2018094371443273804?s=20

He also reminisced about his first convention.

Jensen: I thought nobody is gonna know Supernatural, I’ll probably get more Smallville fans from the year I was on that. And the place went bananas for Supernatural. That was the moment I came back to Jared and was like, oh no, we might be doing this for the next 20 years. And Jared goes, no. And I go, yeah. So there’s been a lot those milestones throughout my life and it’s important to recognize them and embrace them.

Video: https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/2018095672625365132?s=20

Rob talked about his challenging role on The Boys and how it really felt like such an accomplishment. (It should, he was amazing!)

All too soon, it was time for the last question.

And of course the last question song…

This fan definitely had a good day.

Pretty sure she’s all of us in that moment!

Jensen said his usual emotional goodbye to the fans (though he was clearly missing the guy who’s usually standing next to him doing the same thing.)

We were all missing him too.

Jensen: Let’s just give a little love to my boy – to our boy, who isn’t here.

Jensen: Here we go…

He held up the phone to film the audience and we all held up our signs that some wonderful fan had made and distributed to most of us.

Jensen immediately got emotional when he saw the signs.

Jensen: Oh, there it is, see? I knew you guys would show up! This is what I’m talking about, humanity – there’s still good people out there! 1 – 2 – 3

He filmed us all cheering for Jared, topped off by a Norton drum roll.

Then he turned the camera on himself and gave Jared the finger (fondly).

Jensen: Look around you, there are good people here.

Jensen: Yeah I didn’t turn it around, I didn’t flip the camera like you Gen Zers, so what? She’s like, who you callin’ Gen Zers? You’re out there, you know who you are! That’s it for me.

He took a bow, hand over heart, made the heart hands every way he could manage, and that was the end of a surprisingly emotional panel.

Video: https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/2018097688156197008?s=20

I still can’t wait to see Jared at the Boston con coming up next month, but I was glad we got to “see” him at this con and also show him how much we missed him.

Since then, we’ve had all three of them (Jared, Jensen and Misha) sharing a screen again on ‘The Boys’, which was so much fun.

Stay tuned for more from Boston with all three in 3 weeks!
