The last Supernatural Creation con (on land anyway) of 2025 was in Nashville, as it usually is – but this time it was earlier than it has been in the past, starting on Halloween. I have too many little kids in the family to let me disappear on actual Halloween, so I flew in early on Saturday for a quick in-and-out weekend in Nashville.
Here are some highlights and photos (and some tweets with short videos of some of the panels too).
Made it in time to catch a glimpse of the lovely Felicia Day.
And for Misha’s panel!
Someone asked Misha for advice on how to keep going in these very difficult times.
Misha: You just have to keep doing what you can to fight for good. That’s what drew us all to Supernatural too.
He went on to say that we can pass down the stories that inspire us – like Supernatural.
Misha: So we can fight the demons in this world.
That is so much of what makes this Show so special, and so inspiring to so many of us.
Misha talked about his kids getting older – his son now answers his phone calls with “whaddya want?” But then he comes to him for comfort when he has a bad dream, so Misha takes solace in that. I can relate.
Misha shared his favorite memory of accomplishment – when he and Jared and Jensen were wrestling and Jared tapped out lol.
Misha: I guess the best moment I had in all the cons I’ve been to and all the time I was working on Supernatural, onscreen and off, a feeling of like vanquishing accomplishment that came from this moment, I believe an Orlando convention years ago, where we got drunk and wrestled and Jared tapped out, and it just felt so unbelievably good.
https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/1984679602397020535?s=20
Drunk J2M wrestling…. in this fandom it’s not fanfic, it’s reality.
One of my favorite moments was when a tiny young fan named Aurora came onstage and Misha showed her the giant inflatable dinosaur (with its Halloween pumpkin bucket).
Someone gave him some candy, which seemed appropriate for a Halloween con.
Which he sampled immediately.
I cannot remember the story at this point but Misha took a walk to the back of the ballroom to chat with a fan who at one point called him “Mimicoco” and there’s something adorable about that.
Misha says he’s trying to nurture his kids to be the best version of themselves.
As a parent, can relate.
He was asked about his first role. Misha said he was so nervous he couldn’t say the lines. Finally the exasperated director was just like, fine we got it! (They cut the scene lol). Misha has a sense of humor about it though.
Director:
Apropos of Misha’s guest role where he showed off his…flexibility…Misha said he was the most flexible boy in the history of his school – so he just had to do the audition for a flexible (and well endowed) yoga guy.
Misha: check, check…
Some people watching that episode, no doubt…
What were his favorite Supernatural episodes?
Misha: I really love The French Mistake, and Baby, where everything is told from the point of view of the car and a piece of the car is in every frame of the episode. I really love Scoobynatural, and Everybody Hates Hitler. What were the others? The Man Who Would be King? No, that was a little Cas heavy, don’t you think? Dead In the Water, no, not my favorite. I like them the more ridiculous the better, I guess. Lazarus Rising was pretty good I guess. But I’d say The French Mistake because it was so fucking weird. And we take the piss out of ourselves. One of the things people don’t know is there were like levels to it where if you’re a casual watcher of the show you’re like whoa that’s weird but kinda funny. If you’re a fan, you’ll get it on a more subtle level. If you’re crew or cast member then you get all the jokes, but some were only inside jokes just for us.
https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/1984688276028956698?s=20
A fan asked what he’s been up to recently, and Misha shared that he’s working on a novel that’s an AI apocalypse story. Sounds relevant!
Like just about everyone who worked on the Show, Misha expressed his gratitude for the show and the fandom.
Misha: Supernatural changed my life, brought me people who are lifelong friends. It’s been a privilege.
Misha wrote chapters about the impact of the show and the fandom in both Family Don’t End With Blood and Fan Phenomena Supernatural – you can find more information on both books at the links on the home page. (Family benefits Random Acts and suicide prevention too).
There was a running gag through the whole weekend that Rob Benedict and Richard Speight, Jr. have been hanging out for too long and are starting to be indistinguishable. When they came onstage as Misha wrapped up his panel, Misha and “Rob” discussed getting steamy with Ruth Connell.
Meanwhile, actual Rob:
Misha blew a kiss to the fans as is his tradition at the end of his panel.
Later I managed to catch most of Alex Calvert’s panel – I walked in as he was talking about exploding genitalia, so clearly that was a Gen V question! Poor Rufus… (he’s a jerk, but ouch)
What would Rufus’ drag queen name be?
Alex: Something Britney for the song… I think they’ll probably incorporate that into Season 3 (of Gen V).
That would not surprise me one bit!
Fan: Would you like to know my drag queen name?
Alex on hearing it: Oh, I thought it was gonna be like Cocks Alot…
lol
I kinda loved Alex’s outfit, as I told him later – nice, right?
We also got Alex fanboying over ‘Love Is Blind’ which was adorable.
He talked a bit about Supernatural too.
Alex: Clearly on the show, Mary wasn’t afraid of explosions. I mean, the pilot….then me…
Ouch.
Alex: But Courtney Ford, who played my mom on the show, was really sweet.
He said the eating cereal scene was only added because they needed more footage.
Alex said he really enjoyed playing Belphegor.
Alex: It was fun playing a demon, dragging the boys to hell, wearing those sweet white Oakleys…
I appreciate Alex’s genuineness and candor – being an actor can be a weird profession.
Alex: You know how much it sucks to play God on TV and then have to go buy groceries?
He said he initially had a one year contract, so it depended on the fandom’s reaction to the character of Jack whether or not they’d kill him off. Phew!
Saturday was of course SNS time – which looked a bit different at first!
Kinda like a Louden Swain slumber party… (especially Billy in his Chuck robe)
Kim Rhodes did her Rockstar thing, which is always incredible.
Billy Moran (sans Chuck robe) did one of the songs from his solo album.
The talented Emma Fitzpatrick added her beautiful voice to some of the songs, and Steve Carlson came out and played with Swain too.
And then the talented Jensen Ackles came onstage and joined the fun! It’s Nashville, how could he not?
Jensen: They’re all watching the game backstage…
He never disappoints when he belts out Whipping Post!
Here are a few clips…
https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/1984826275920257161?s=20
https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/1984847751973101716?s=20
There’s just something about Jensen Ackles in a hoodie, isn’t there?
Then Jensen and Steve treated us to some Radio Company – we got a little hip action on All My Livin’ Time.
https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/1984828779189940370?s=20
I love when Jensen and Steve get to play with Swain, it’s always so much fun!
Steve gave Jensen a big hug afterwards, with all the Radio Company enthusiasm.
Jason Manns joined Rob Benedict for some beautiful harmony on Hallelujah, with the audience singing the chorus as is our tradition. Gorgeous!
Briana Buckmaster joined Swain for ‘The Wave’, which her voice sounds incredible on.
Louden Swain played ‘She Waits’, which always makes me emotional but perhaps especially at the last con of the year – and with a ballroom full of lights held up in support of Rob.
Rob also sang Fare Thee Well, the other song that makes me emotional because he performed it on Supernatural.
Lights were back on for ‘Amazing’ – I love seeing the appreciation on Rob’s face when he sees the ballroom all lit up. You can read his emotional first person account of when he had a stroke at a Supernatural convention a decade ago, and how his fellow actors and the fandom got him through in the chapter her wrote in Family Don’t End With Blood – it’s what ‘Amazing’ is all about.
Big hug from Mark Sheppard with all the emotion we were all feeling.
The encore was ‘Medicated’ with the band and Mark Sheppard (and all of us) on kazoo.
Mark put his heart into it!
So did Norton!
Louden Swain took a well deserved bow – what a year of amazing Saturday Night Specials!
And then it was Sunday – J2 day!
It was the end of Daylight Savings and they were as confused as many of us were. Jared said he called Gen in the morning to see what time it was!
Jensen told Jared that he left the stage last night to go backstage to check the score of the game during Whipping Post (which luckily has a long guitar break lol)
We did not have any Norton on drums for the gold panel, but no worries, Jensen made sure that Jared got a rim shot when he had to tell a dad joke.
Jared: Why has no one ever heard a pterodactyl go to the bathroom? Because the ‘pee’ is silent!
Jensen: exuberant rim shot!
Jared: is thrilled
https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/1985032256248062305?s=20
They like to make fun of themselves, saying that now they have to stretch for their traditional jump onstage for the main panel.
A fan asked if they’d ever been hurt on set, and Jared said he’s broken bones on Supernatural.
Ouch.
Jensen told the story of when he sliced open his finger cocking his gun.
Jensen: It was just a flap (of skin). So I just pressed my thumb to it to hold it closed and did the take. I probably should’ve said, hold on.
Jared: Hey, my finger has a finger…
Jensen: And by the end of the take, there was blood all over my hand. I was like okay, I guess I should’ve stopped. So I’ve got a little scar on my finger from that.
Jared: I remember that.
Jensen: Oh, and here’s one, I think it was All Hell Breaks Loose 2, where Dean gets thrown into the gravestone and the Yellow Eyed Demon comes and John Winchester saves him. It was Fred Lehne’s coverage so I get thrown as the camera’s here, I fling myself backwards against the gravestone. Well, the gravestone they built was kinda foam…
Jared: Part Styrofoam, yeah…
Jensen: So I was like oh, it’s kinda padded, I’ll just go really hard into it. The base of it was not padded – it was actual stone.
Ouch.
https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/1985034442604151070?s=20
They also told the story of the time they used a bit too much accellerant.
Jared: To the point of like, when he smashed his finger, I could see something in his face. This was another one of those times where he goes to burn something, and they had to add – because if you just burn something in a wastebasket, you’re not really gonna see it.
Jensen: So they added a whole bunch of accellerant.
Jared: So Jensen goes, and Dean is like, ‘we’re done here’ (Jared imitates Dean’s bowlegs and deep voice). So he throws the flame in and he’s holding the wastebasket and the fire goes like up to here and he’s like, maintaining his character, but I was like, he just got burned, I know he just got burned!
Jensen: But you can’t ruin the take, you don’t wanna do that!
https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/1985034972684566946?s=20
I will never EVER get tired of hearing them reminisce about their time filming Supernatural. Literally never.
A fan asked if they’d had any supernatural experiences.
Jensen: I currently live in a haunted house.
What have they watched recently?
Jared: The last things I binged were The Boys and Countdown.
Awwww, I love a supportive bestie.
Jared and Jensen talked about why the two of them had so much chemistry together.
Jared: We both have an older brother and a younger sister, our parents are still married and live in the same house we grew up in – not together. So there are obvious things you can write down on paper, but I don’t know what creates that actual chemistry.
Jensen: I have a theory and I think there’s a multitude of ways you can find chemistry with people, even people that you’re meeting for the first time like other actors you’re working with on set. Humor. I think humor is an amazing icebreaker. I feel like it was one of the things that bonded us very quickly. We have a very similar sense of humor. When you’re working on set it’s a bit of a pressure cooker, you’re watching the clock, you’ve got this much work to get done today…
Jared: And life is still going on in the background, you’re in a fight with your brother or sister or your spouse. But you’re on set and sun is down in 15 minutes and we have 45 minutes of work, get to it.
Jensen: But it was inevitable, certainly with he and I, that whenever things got tense or pressured, we would always break that with humor, and I feel like whenever new guest stars would come on set, we very quickly assessed the comedy of that person.
https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/1985039479317450765?s=20
Jensen talked more about finding chemistry and why he loves working with Aya Cash on Vought Rising.
Jensen: When you’re filming, I would always try to make the other cast laugh and try to break them. Even if it might ruin the take, it releases that pressure, and humor is just such a wonderful bonding thing. So I always kinda lead with that. Even the other day, I was doing a scene with Aya Cash, and she comes in and she’s dressed, she’s got like golf stuff all over her, and I think we’re supposed to have a kissing scene or something, I don’t know, and I’m like, what are you doing? She’s like, I’m just trying to get you excited. And I was like, I love you. There’s things you find to break the ice, and when you have a lot of things in common, it makes it much easier. But when you’re trying to find some commonality, some common ground, humor for me is always the go to.
https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/1985039273926574570?s=20
I cannot wait to see Jensen and Aya on ‘Vought Rising’!
Both Jensen and Aya have chapters in the new book Supes Ain’t Always Heroes, all about their portrayals of Soldier Boy and Stormfront and their experience on ‘The Boys’. You can find more info at the link on the home page. (The book benefits the Venice Family Clinic, which Eric Kripke selected – he’s a passionate supporter of their work bringing medical care to people in the LA area who can’t afford it).
Speaking of chemistry, Jared and Jensen’s chemistry is still very much in evidence, as Jensen affectionately crashed into Jared as they ended the panel.
Boys.
We got a real treat on Sunday afternoon – Jerry Wanek, who was the wizard in charge of art and set decoration for Supernatural, had a panel where he shared so many fascinating insights into how he and his team made the show look so amazing. Part of that was the iconic motels where Sam and Dean stayed, especially in the early seasons.
Jerry: Once we picked a theme for a motel, everything lined up, even the shape of the motel keys.
(Some of my most prized possessions are a few of those motel keys that were used on the show that I was lucky enough to buy at the set sale – I’m sentimental every time I look at them.)
Jerry had warm words for the Supernatural fandom, as do most of the cast and crew.
Jerry: Supernatural fans are probably the most loyal fans ever.
Yep.
Rich and Rob moderated Jerry’s panel, and he talked about the Tarantino-esque scene that Rich directed.
Jerry: In that scene, the design of the hallway matched your energy walking.
Brilliant!
He also shared that on Changing Channels, they built two motel sets – one dirty and one not.
Jerry also talked about the origins of the Men of Letters bunker. I can testify that was an incredible set – so realistic and so large that I once got lost trying to find my way OUT of it (and to the craft services table…)
Jerry: Season 7 everyone said okay we’re gonna do the Men of Letters. They gave me a little bit of backstory, and Adam (Glass) the writer wrote “it’s Hitler’s bunker”. I’m going, Hitler’s bunker? I’ve done that before, it’s one of those things when everyone thinks it will be really cool and evil and mysterious and it’s not, it’s literally concrete walls and not interesting at all. So I said okay, let’s open this up a little bit because we’re gonna shoot in there once, twice, maybe three times, because no other director is gonna want to shoot in there because there’s nothing visually interesting, and we’ll tear it down. But Phil Sgriccia, who is really visual, had a lot of input and he started sending me a lot of really magnificent research libraries. Then I got to thinking about the time period when the Men of Letters came into existence, and it matched up with when the government built a lot of really cool museums, libraries, public utilities, so we kinda traced the people who were the initiators of the Men of Letters to be kinda like the Freemasons.
https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/1985082535026774352?s=20
Jerry also talked about designing another iconic set – Harvelle’s Roadhouse.
Rich: Is that the first standing set?
Jerry: Yes, we were in Bobby’s a bit, but there wasn’t enough page count to make it a true standing set, you need to be in it at least a day or two an episode.
Rich: It’s a set you never tear down, it’s where a character is going to live through the show. It’s the Cheers bar.
Jerry: There were limitations to Harvelle’s as far as the writers – it was challenging to write a lot of scenes but it’s one of my favorite sets. The boys loved it, but we couldn’t work it into enough episodes to make it worthwhile. So…. We burned it down!
https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/1985082703767912890?s=20
Jerry: The Men of Letters bunker turned out to be bigger and twice as expensive as we thought.
Rob: The Men of Letters bunker was so big that I got lost in it!
Me: Me too Rob!!
Jerry also gave us some bts info on some of the other rooms.
Jerry: Dean’s room was also used as Sam’s room, just re-dressed and shot from the other direction so it looks like it’s right across the hall.
He also talked about the ballroom he had designed for the finale when it originally was going to have Kansas perform there.
Jerry: It was us building a beautiful ballroom, a little smaller than this but not much, and Kansas was on their way up to Vancouver to be in the final episode and in this grand ballroom, we had it like ¾ of the way built, we would find a lot of people who had passed on, because it was Heaven. So we had the opportunity to bring back all these wonderful characters and actors that we had lost over the 15 years. Then Covid stepped in and they couldn’t get across the border, so Andrew and Bob and them scrambled to rewrite it. And I think they did an incredible job. There was so much heart in that last episode. Take it from somebody who was there on the bridge weeping during that last scene, it was a wonderful but very sad day, because you’re saying goodbye to this family that you’ve hung out with for 15 years.
https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/1985084664491495802?s=20
He’s so right, there is so much heart in that episode. I was weeping during that last scene too, even though I wasn’t physically on the bridge like he was.
Jerry: We designed 173 motel rooms. The studio originally wanted Sam and Dean to stay in Motel 6. I said, then find a different set designer!
Thank god he did!
The writers eventually trusted Jerry just like they trusted Jared and Jensen.
Jerry: Eventually the writers said, just tell Jerry to do something cool.
(And he definitely did!)
He said there are lots of shout outs on Supernatural – Margiekugel beer is named after his mom, and there’s a restaurant in Richard’s episode that’s named for his three sons.
Jerry is a very talented artist, and he’s been making prints of his beautiful art that should be for sale soon.
That panel was a rare treat!
That afternoon was the main panel with Jared and Jensen. Some fans planned a special surprise for Jensen in the wake of the recent cancellation of his show ‘Countdown’ – many of us had signs that said “Jensen, thank you for Countdown – We love you”. I helped coordinate getting the lights up so he could see them. Both he and Jared were clearly moved by the show of support, Jensen getting out his camera and Jared asking for a sign so he could join in the support group.
Jared talked about the Comic Con when we all held up AKF lights in support of him, which this reminded him of.
Jared: He got to see the family giving me support, and seeing y’all give my fuckin’ buddy support like that, like I agree, I’m with you, it melts my heart.
Jensen: Can I get one of those? I’ll take this home with me.
https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/1985128479256424737?s=20
I absolutely love how supportive they are of each other.
The last J2 panel of 2025 was full of lovely chaos, and I enjoyed every minute of it. Evidence…
I will never get tired of watching them crack each other up – they have so much fun at their panels, and it’s contagious.
You can’t not smile watching them.
Jensen immediately positioned the fan onstage (not the person, the machine…) so that it blew on Jared to keep him cool. Such a big brother thing to do.
In a more serious moment, they talked about what they wanted to accomplish in life.
Jensen: I want to bring light to the world.
Jared: You do.
Awwwww.
A fan asked if Jared had started filming his new romcom movie based on the book ‘The Bodyguard’.
Jensen:
Norton was still not there, but never fear, Billy jumped in for drums.
Jared: Creation staff, Norton is fired, Billy is hired. Billy, I love you.
Jensen: Hey Billy? Back on the guitar…
Lol
Jensen: Billy and Norton are both fired!
Borja: ??
Jensen: You can’t fire Mike, he’s unfireable.
Jared: whispers something that cracks Borja up
Jensen (going back to the question): Give me the four characters one more time. Crowley, God Cas, Demon Dean, and Soulless Sam. Listen, I think Demon Dean and Soulless Sam are gonna lose this battle.
https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/1985131464250269857?s=20
They also told the story of doing something you do in Nashville (well, they do, I’m too… well, chicken…) – eat hot chicken. Very hot. A fan asked them something about how they smell I guess, and this was the answer.
Jensen: Leather? We ordered lunch and got, any Nashvilleans here? So hot chicken, it’s a big thing here, right? Jared and I are from Texas, we eat spicy food, give us the hottest thing you’ve got. Umm, we got the spiciest chicken that I’ve had in a long time. So much so that I think our faces just stopped burning when we got onstage.
Jared: Mine’s still burning!
Jensen: That being said, there happened to be, someone gave us a nice bottle of whiskey yesterday and it was on the table, and we thought the only thing that’s gonna cut that burn is another burn. So we had a couple shots of whiskey back there just to get rid of the burn of the chicken. So current status, I smell like spicy chicken, whiskey and leather. And he smells like…
(Jared leans in)
Jensen: Basically like me, because we were holding each other backstage crying.
Jared: I smell like tears and regret.
Jensen: That’s right, but that’s normal.
https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/1985133257206214921?s=20
Someone asked about tattoos, and Jared and Jensen had such a nice take on it – get a tattoo, that’s a part of your story.
I have no idea why, but someone asked if Jensen knew what fifth base is (ala Rowena knowing it in the show).
Jared wanted to hear his answer too… are you blushing, Jensen?
They did get serious at some points, and predictably those were what they had to say about working with each other and about the Supernatural finale, which they both are so proud of.
Jensen (on the barn scene): It… it took me a minute to like comprehend that, and when we did it – because it wasn’t scripted – he was like, I think you should say what I said to you and then I should say what you said to me, and I just… in that moment, that meant so much more than – than I think what was originally scripted. Even though what was scripted was beautiful, but that was one of the most, like, I was really proud of my boy in that moment. I was thankful for having a partner that brought that kind of vision to this show and this character and this story that he did. It’s one of the reasons I will always cherish our on-set relationship as much as I do.
Jared: Amen, thanks dude.
https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/1985135837235839090?s=20
It really is just amazing that they worked together for fifteen solid years, through all kinds of ups and downs and life stresses, and they are so proud of each other and of what they created together. It’s evident in the way Jensen’s voice cracks and his hesitation as he gets emotional, and it was so much of the reason why Supernatural was as impactful as it was. I am so grateful too.
Then Jared took his turn.
Jared: In the barn sequence, that was not scripted, and how we kinda started this conversation with, this is not a fandom, it’s a family. When Jensen said — it wasn’t initially scripted, I don’t think it ever made it into the script — but he said, ‘you always keep fighting’. It was so Dean, and it was so Dean talking to Sam, and it was also us telling you all, we see you guys, we’re with you. He was Dean every single second between action and cut, but ‘always keep fighting, you always keep fighting’, was pretty special. It was one of those things that it didn’t surprise me that he thought of it, but it shocked me when it came out. I was like yeah, and that was a thank you to all y’all, and thank you very much.
https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/1985136099409195284?s=20
I am forever grateful that Jared and Jensen added what they did to the barn scene – that they not only made it more moving for Sam and Dean, but included a message to all of us too as they did.
There were plenty of moving moments in this panel – maybe because it was the last one of 2025 for many of us?
Jensen talked about directing his dad in an episode of Supernatural, and Jared listened beaming with pride for his friend.
Then Jared talked about getting a text from Jensen’s dad recently – it’s a rare thing for even their extended families to stay so close.
Jared: You get a text sometimes and it wasn’t saved in my contacts – it used to be – and it’s from Alan Ackles, his dad. The message was like, hey it’s Dad Ackles, I’m in Austin, love to see you if you’re around. That day I was either out of town or not back yet and I couldn’t do it, but I was like hey Dad Ackles. We caught up a little bit but it’s just so funny, I met this dude 20 years ago, 20 ½, and now his dad is like how are the kids, want me to come bring brisket? I was like, I would love that but I can’t eat it for a couple days because I’m not home. So to answer your question to me, I love working with Jensen as a director and I love working for him as an actor when he’s directing. I got to do it on Walker too and had a great time. I love watching people shine. I love excellence, in anything. I’m not the world’s biggest baseball fan, I love baseball, but you bet your ass I’m gonna watch game 7 of the World Series!
https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/1985138919201968297?s=20
Jensen talked about guest starring on Tracker with Justin Hartley (which I love, all about the Russell!)
Jared: You’ve gotta stop playing roles where you’re shorter!
Jensen (laughing): You’re right!
A fan asked, who could Jared play on Tracker?
Jensen: Listen, he can do anything.
They really are each other’s biggest cheerleaders, which is so rare in this world and especially in this business.
There was a random question about Bucee’s, which prompted Jensen to play both himself and Dean contemplating the beef jerky counter there.
Then it was time for the last question, with a nervous fan joining them onstage.
They were both sweet to her, Jensen patting her arm to help her stay calm. I’m sure it’s intimidating to be up there not just with them but in front of the entire ballroom!
The panel was over too soon.
Jared joined in the end of the last question song with Jensen and Rob.
Jared and Jensen gave their traditional fist bump and thanked the fans and each other.
https://x.com/FangasmSPN/status/1985142980538167517?s=20
They got emotional, which means I got emotional.
More emotional.
And that was a wrap on the last con of 2025.
I said goodbye to friends who I won’t see until 2026, and flew home at the ridiculous hour of 5 am so I could go straight to work.
Was it worth it?
100%
