Goodbye Stranger: Supernatural 8.17 Gets It Right

More than any of the other writers on board for S8, Robbie Thompson seems to get fandom. This episode had something for just about everyone – the Dean and Cas fans, the Sam and Dean fans, the Megstiel fans (kudos for getting the ship name right on that, btw). Even the Sam and Amelia fans got a shout out. Not sure there are many Sam and Amelia fans, but if you’re out there, you must be happy too.

Viva Las Vegas!
Viva Las Vegas!

We’ve been loving all the great reports from VegasCon, and the amazing photos that have been posted – thank you, fandom, for always sharing the pretty. This con had so many great moments, both onstage and off. We caught up with fangirl and fanboy friends from all over the world, relishing in the ability to have actual face to face conversations over lunch instead of just exchanging 120 character tweets or occasional email or facebook exchanges. Cons are wonderful for the chance to see the guests up close and sort-of-personal, but they’re at least as wonderful for the chance to connect with other fans and share your enthusiasm for Supernatural.

Jared Padalecki at VegasCon – It’s All You Guys!

vegas 053

VegasCon was special in quite a few ways, not the least of which was the passion and energy on both sides of the fan/famous fence. The actors, master of ceremonies Richard Speight Jr. and the band (Elastic Waste Band aka Louden Swain) put on an amazing show, and the fans showed them all the love. Jared and Jensen brought the SPN Family’s People’s Choice Award for favorite fan following so they could put it into the hands of the people who earned it: the fans.

Viva Las Vegas! Jensen Ackles at VegasCon

Note to our lovely readers:

Creation Entertainment has asked us to take down this Jensen Meet & Greet report and not to post any detailed reports of meet and greets in the future, in order to preserve the integrity of the meet and greets as private functions. We realize that our reports are more detailed than many (due to Lynn’s mad shorthand skills and amazing memory…okay, more due to her mad shorthand skills…) and had offered them up here as a “public service” to fandom and as a way of letting fans know how wonderful the meet and greets can be – which we saw as a way of promoting them for Creation as well. We’ve heard from many of you who decided to spring for the big bucks in order to be able to experience them yourselves after reading our reports. We make no money from this site, we simply wanted to share the squee. However, Creation has never been anything but professional and helpful to us, and supportive of our books, so we want to respect their wishes.

We will, of course, continue to post other interviews and con commentary here, and live tweet con coverage — and if you like our snarky fan-centric writing style, you can read a whole book of it when Fangasm comes out in October. It will be priced so that every fan can buy it, in e-book and paperback, and it’s jam-packed with interviews with Jensen, Jared, Misha, Jim, Richard, Matt, Kripke, Gamble, etc etc as well as our own squeeful (and occasionally embarrassing) misadventures in fandom.

Time to Buy More Tissues – Supernatural 8.16

When it comes to Supernatural episode reactions, it’s all relative. That gave “Remember The Titans” a big advantage, so it’s no surprise that I liked it. The fact that Dean was wandering around in his boxer briefs and tee shirt probably contributed to my affection for the episode as well, also to the surprise of no one. (Yeah, he had the dead guy robe on, but it was OPEN, guys. I mean, that’s what gifs and screencaps are made for!) Add to that the fact that the brothers were back to being smart and competent and that Sam is confiding in Dean a little, and I’m a happy fangirl.
